Oskar Theodor Garvens (1874-1951)
Oskar Theodor Garvens was a German sculptor and caricaturist born in Hanover, Lower Saxony, in northern Germany. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and became a strong advocate for traditional artistic styles. Garvens was particularly critical of modern art movements like cubism, which he often satirized in his work. In 1911, he married Margarete Unger, with whom he had two children, Klaus and Ursula. He occasionally signed his pieces with a distinctive monogram featuring a small letter “o” within a larger “G.” Garvens passed away in Berlin, Germany in 1951.
