Despite the long standing misconception that Black Forest carvings originated in Germany, the finest examples were produced by Swiss master carvers and became highly sought after by Grand Tour travellers and Victorian collectors.

Carved primarily from walnut and linden wood, Black Forest carvings range from highly detailed animal studies to functional household objects and whimsical figural pieces.
