Antique Mantel Clocks
Mantel clocks are the general term for timepieces designed to be placed on a mantel or shelf. First developed in mid-18th-century France, the mantel clock evolved from the earlier known chamber clock, which was similar but featured carrying handles, which are absent on a mantel clock. These clocks are more compact than longcase clocks and are admired for their refined, space-saving designs.
Mantel clocks were designed to be seen and are manufactured from a range of materials such as wood, marble, porcelain, or brass. Many examples feature intricate details such as gilded accents, sculpted figures, and hand-painted artwork, making them a focal point in any setting.
At Jacksons Antique, we tend to head towards more decorative mantle clocks that are perfect for finishing a room. Typically, our clocks are all mechanically driven either by spring or pendulum and have all been meticulously stripped, serviced and tested, ready for sale to give you that extra confidence when purchasing.
Our Antique Mantle Clocks collection at Jacksons Antique includes a curated collection of makes, models and materials from Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos Clocks to period mantle clocks dating from the 18th century and everything in between.
