    Description

Boxed in a Leather Hermes Box Paris, France

From our Glassware collection, we are pleased to offer this Cambodia Presentation Glass Charger in its original Hermes of Paris case.

The charger is finely engraved with eight famous landmarks across Czechoslovakia, including a detailed central view of Prague Castle. It is housed in a black leather Hermes case, gilt-embossed to the lid with the Arms of Cambodia reading “Ruler of the Kingdom of Cambodia,” and fitted with a velvet and silk-lined interior.

This charger was presented as a diplomatic gift from Czechoslovakia to Cambodia in the late 1950s, marking the establishment of official diplomatic relations between the two nations. It dates to the mid-20th century, circa 1956, and represents a fascinating piece of history connecting Europe and Southeast Asia.

    cz (Czechoslovakia) and Cambodia

The history of diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) and Cambodia began in 1956, when the first diplomatic contacts were established. Subsequently, Czechoslovakia supported the development of Cambodia by building a number of industrial plants (power plants, tire and tractor factories, sugar factories, locomotives, etc.). An important part of the mutual relations of both countries is the fact that His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, the current king of Cambodia, studied in the Czech Republic, where he completed his studies in 1975 by graduating from the Academy of Performing Arts (AMU) in Prague.
