    Silver Filigree Linked Chain Body


    From our Chinese collection, we are delighted to offer this exceptional Chinese Silver and Enamel Teapot. The Teapot of traditional form upon a solid silver base with silver filigree linked chain across the body. The Teapot Body is decorated with vibrant enamels stemming from around the handle through strong cherry blossom branches with blossoming flowers and multiple magpie birds. The handle, spout, top rim and lid each have a blue enamel border with a further enamel border to the lid and finial. The interior of the Teapot is silver gilded and has a built in strainer covering the spout outlet, with traces of original gilding to the exterior and is stamped ‘silver’ to the base. The Chinese Silver and Enamel Teapot dates to the middle of the 20th century and the end of the Republic of China circa 1945.

    Enamel (vitreous enamel)

    also known as porcelain enamel, is a material made by fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 °C. The powder melts, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating. The word vitreous comes from the Latin vitreus, meaning “glassy”.
