Description
Fine English rococo revival wine jug. The jug formed with a tapered crystal body intricately hand-cut and mounted with decorative silver plate. The lower silver plate band of plain form with scrolled edges attached to the bottom of the beautifully formed naturalistic grape vine handle. The upper band covered with repousse grape vine decoration with a silver plate spout mounted with Bacchus. The bulbous hinged lid surmounted with a pineapple style finial and beautiful emboss work with repousse leaves. The wine jug dated to the late 19th century circa 1880 made in England.
Notes | Bacchus (Roman) or Dionysus in Greek mythology was the god of wine and festivity.
