From our Clock collection, we are delighted to offer this French Carriage Clock. The Carriage clock of typical form with bevelled edged glazed panels. and a gilt brass frame. The Clock fitted with one large dial having black roman numerals and three subsidiary dials featuring a rare centre sweep to the top sub dial, an alarm to the bottom right and date calendar to the bottom left. The clock also featuring an hour repeater to the top activated by a brass push button. The clock is a beautiful example of watch making and is a rare example with the centre sweep. The clock dates to the late 19th century circa 1880.
Centre Sweep refers to a hand that counts the seconds. Typically a clock is fitted with both a minute and hour hand however a further hand to count seconds is more uncommon and not often seen especially in carriage clocks making this a highly collectable piece.
