Description
From our clocks collection we are delighted to bring to market this fantastic French oversized carriage clock compendium. The carriage clock carved out of red (rouge) marble with a wide foot having a cavetto step with quadrant brass edging with an opposing matching top. The clock with an industrial oversized handle for carrying the weighted clock with two dials one clock dial and a second compass and thermometer dial. The dial signed by the retailer F. Costa Buenos Aires fitted with a French Hour striking movement with half hour repeat. Freshly overhauled and serviced the clock is in lovely working order and comes with a key. Dating to the second half of the 19th century circa 1870.
There is a possibility that the clock was original designed for the captains quarters of a ship as the design is heavy in weight to stop any movement and is also fitted with a temperature gauge and compass for navigating whilst being able to keep track of the time.
