From our Clock collection, we are delighted to offer this Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock. The Atmos clock with four glass domed case and canted corners model 528 their flagship four glass design design. The Atmos clock beautifully engineered with a central bellows which drives the clock via expansion and contraction. The clock is finished with a white dial, gilded numerals, visible ruby jewels and the original ‘Le Coultre Atmos Perpetual Motion Clock 15 Jewels’ door sticker. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock bears the reference number 323321 dating it to circa 1970.

Jaeger-LeCoultre were founded in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre and have grown to become one of the world’s leading luxury watch and clock manufacture from Switzerland. The company has hundreds of inventions, patents, and more than one thousand movements to their name, including the world’s smallest movement, one of the world’s most complicated wristwatches (Grande Complication), and a timepiece of near-perpetual movement (the Atmos clock).

Atmos Clock founded in 1928, the clock is driven by a mainspring which is wound by the expansion and contraction of a liquid and gaseous ethyl chloride in an airtight chamber called bellows. When the temperature rises the ethyl chloride vaporises and expands compressing a spring and, when the temperature falls the gas condenses and the spring expands. The continuous motion winds the mainspring giving enough energy to run the entire clock. A 1-degree change in temperature is enough to run an Atmos clock for 4.3 days!

For timekeeping, a torsion pendulum is used as it consumes far less energy than that of an ordinary pendulum as it twists on the end of the wire instead of swinging left to right. The motion is 30 times slower than that of a typical long case clock pendulum. Other than very occasional servicing due to wear the clock runs itself without any human intervention making them extremely hassle free with a totally silent movement.
