Professionally STRIPPED CLEANED & SERVICED
From our Atmos Clock collection, we are delighted to offer this Jaeger-LeCoultre Champagne Dial Atmos clock. The Atmos clock a world famous time piece originally invented by Jean Leon Reutter and later bought by industrial time keeping powerhouse Jaeger-LeCoultre. With its ‘perpetual motion’ engineering and silent movement coupled with its timeless design the Atmos clock has become a staple in the Jacksons Antique collection. We are pleased to present to you here the very recognisable flagship four glass skeleton cased model with a drop down door, gold plated brass case and uncommon champagne dial with black roman numerals and hands. To the base of the Atmos clock, the pendulum lock lever can be seen used to unlock and lock the pendulum. The front door of the Atmos clock drops down via the small thumb tab to the centre at the top on a spring return, the user pushes the thumb tab gently down and then pulls the glass door forward, up and out. The inside of the case access is to allow the user to adjust the time as and when required and to level the clock upon installation using the two feet adjusters and spirit bubble in the base of the clock at the front. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos reference number is 355479 and is located on the top bridge which dates the Atmos clock second half of the 20th century during the mid-century modern period circa 1972.

JAEGER-LECOULTRE
were founded in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre and have grown to become one of the world’s leading luxury watch and clock manufacture from Switzerland. The company has hundreds of inventions, patents, and more than one thousand movements to their name, including the world’s smallest movement, one of the world’s most complicated wristwatches (Grande Complication), and a timepiece of near-perpetual movement (the Atmos clock).
ATMOS CLOCK
founded in 1928, the clock is driven by a mainspring which is wound by the expansion and contraction of a liquid and gaseous ethyl chloride in an airtight chamber called bellows. When the temperature rises the ethyl chloride vaporises and expands compressing a spring and, when the temperature falls the gas condenses and the spring expands. The continuous motion winds the mainspring giving enough energy to run the entire clock. A 1-degree change in temperature is enough to run an Atmos clock for 4.3 days!
For timekeeping, a torsion pendulum is used as it consumes far less energy than that of an ordinary pendulum as it twists on the end of the wire instead of swinging left to right. The motion is 30 times slower than that of a typical long case clock pendulum. Other than very occasional servicing due to wear the clock runs itself without any human intervention making them extremely hassle free with a totally silent movement.
