Description

Fine Japanese Meiji period miniature satsuma teapot. Embellished throughout in gold with floral decoration around two scenes with kneeling figures. The lid decorated with 1000 butterfly type design. Signed to the base with a four character mark for Hankinzan Do, black with accented gold characters. The teapot made from earthenware with a crackle glaze finish commonly seen on Japanese satsuma wear.

Lot Reference: Hankinzan was a renowned Japanese satsuma wear maker of smaller piece earthenware with dense detail and bright gilding. A small volume maker with constantly high quality, pieces by Hankinzan are scarce and sought after.
