    Description

    Japanese boxwood netsuke depicting a Tiger & cub. The netsuke featuring a large tiger holding its paw aloft with its cub underneath. Each with translucent horn eyes elevating the netsuke, signed to the base Masayoshi. The carving with excellent wear throughout from many years of use dating to circa 1840.

    Notes | A netsuke (根付) is a miniature sculpture originating in 17th century Japan. Initially it began as a simply-carved button fastener on the cords of an inro which was later developed into ornately sculpted objects of craftsmanship.
