Description
Fine contemporary mechanical bird singing box by Reuge. The box beautifully crafted with an engine turned gilt metal frame stood upon four ball feet. To the panels simulated Lapis-Lazuli is delicately placed with layers of lacquer showing glints of metallic gold in the light. When wound to the underside and the leaver pulled gently it lifts the lid revealing a beautiful metal scroll working with a bird outline and nearly instantly after a brightly feathered bird majestically rises up singing while flapping its wings and bobbing from side to side. This particular box has been manufactured by one of the most respected manufacters to this day, Reuge of Switzerland and is complete with its box and instructions. Second half of the 20th century.
Notes | Founded by Charles Reuge in 1865 and starting with the musical pocket watch the company is still based in Sainte-Croix (Switzerland) today and has gained more than 155 years of expertise during that time. They took over the manufacturing and marketing of singing birds in1960 from Bontems firm in Paris and then Eschle in 1977. The company is regarded as the world leading producer of music automaton.
