Early 18th/late 17th century personal leather travel case with multiple compartments. The front of the box contains two latches and a lock that are used to secure and lock the box for safe travel. As the lid is lifted the interior reveals four different sectioned compartments one with hinged access. The right hand side of the box contains a hidden compartment and is accessible by sliding a blank upwards revealing the drawer underneath. Boxes such as this would be designed to contain and carry personal items and commodities such as medication, snuff, writing materials and paperwork with the secret compartment perfectly hiding personal items away from prying eyes.
