    Alfred Joseph

There is very little information regarding Latvian silversmiths due to the interruptions with Russian hallmarks and the countries independence across two different occasions. Joseph was from Tallinn which is now the capital of Estonia. Joseph flourished from 1922-1939.

    Val Saint Lambert

is a Belgian crystal glassware manufacturer which was founded in 1826 and based in Seraing, Belgium. It has the royal warrant of King Albert II.

    Latvia

Following the Russian Revolution of 1917, Latvia declared its independence on November 18, 1918, and after a period of fighting, the new nation was recognised by Soviet Russia and Germany in 1920. The new silver hallmark was a female head with the Latvian crown into a rectangular frame with slightly rounded corners (Milda, the Baltic Goddess of love and freedom) and 875 or 916 showing the silver content. The maker’s mark was struck beside the control mark. The circular mark with Milda head was the assay office mark for silver. From 1946 to 1990 the Soviet Union gained control of Latvia and the hallmarks were changed during this period to coincide again with the Russian marks.

    875 Silver

875 silver refers to the fineness out of 1000, English sterling silver has a finess of 925/1000. Often continental silver has a lower fineness such as 875/100
