Very Rare Hand Made Silver
From our Silver collection we are delighted to introduce this very rare Sterling Silver Centerpiece by Robert Edgar Stone. The Sterling Silver Centrepiece of beautiful art deco design in the shape of a tazza with a central column stood upon a round base with a flared bowl. The Silver Centerpiece having a large flared bowl with a rolled top rim spaced with accented decoration stood upon a magnificent floral inspired stem with finished with intricate silver hanging spheres and top lip. The work involved in the tazza bares many similarities to the Danish silversmith Georg Jensen (1866-1935) and I think it would be a fair assessment to suggest this would be the inspiration for the piece. The Silver Centrepiece is hallmarked Robert Edgar Stone, Sterling, London and dated 1938 during the Art Deco period.
Robert Edgar Stone (1903-1990) was born in London and trained at the silversmithing department of London’s Central School of Arts and Crafts shortly followed by a two year scholarship at the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths which allowed him to travel throughout Western Europe whilst training in Paris, France at the La Maison Henin. Stone operated at 20 Garrick Street, London employing several apprentices. His notable works included a cross and candlesticks for the Temple Church in London, an altar cross for the Wren Chapel, Pembroke College, Cambridge and a rose bowl made from palladium for the Institute of Metallurgy as a gift to Princess Margaret.
