    Description

A silver and guilloche enamel box from mid-century Italy by Franco Salimbeni.

From our Silver category, we are pleased to offer this Italian silver and enamel box by Franco Salimbeni dating to 1979. The box is of slim rectangular form and finished in a vivid green guilloche enamel with a waved pattern beneath the surface. A black enamel border frames the lid, giving contrast to the silver gilt mounts and long thumb piece to the front.

The interior retains its original silver gilt finish, clean and well preserved. The inside lip is struck with Italian silver marks for 925 standard alongside the maker’s mark for Franco Salimbeni, registered under FL 391 with the star control mark. The design draws clear influence from the earlier Art Deco movement while remaining firmly within the refined Mid-Century Modern aesthetic of late 20th-century Italian decorative silver.

A well-made example of Italian guilloche enamel work, the box presents clean lines, strong colour and a pleasing visual balance, making it a refined addition to a collection of 20th-century silver and enamel objects.
